Respond to the needs of healthcare employers by training qualified workers who linguistically and culturally match clients and patients served by community health clinics and hospitals in Alameda County.
The project accomplishes this goal by: (1) offering healthcare employment training courses; (2) supporting the recruitment, training and skills advancement of Limited English Proficient (LEP) adults; and (3) developing partner relationships with community health clinics in Alameda County.
To date, the Healthcare Sector Initiative has
trained three cohorts of medical assistants (MAs), two cohorts of dental
assistants (DAs) and one cohort of medical interpreters (MIs) for a total of
99 graduates. This initiative is applying for additional grant funding
and is developing relationships with area hospitals and other employers to
expand the program to other professions.
