
Local colleges are launching and expanding a variety of programs to increases the supply of nurses. Holy Names University and Samuel Merritt College (SMC) have expanded both their undergraduate and graduate programs in health and nursing. Mills College offers a Pre-Nursing Program, in conjunction with SMC similar to the one SMC has with Holy Names. UC Berkeley also offers preparation for nursing school.
Along with scholarships, loans and grants, SMC
with Kaiser Permanente, offers a loan forgiveness program for students in
the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. SMC also
opened a two-year partnership with Merritt Community College nursing
students and faculty to provide them access to increased clinical training
opportunities at SMC’s Health Sciences Simulation Center (HSSC) which
focuses on patient safety and effective learning strategies.
